Critical Organizational Scholarship and Workplace Empowerment
Anshuman Prasad

This article examines the discourse on alienation with a view to reconceptualizing it in management inquiry. First, the authors offer a detailed analysis of the organizational and managerial discourse on alienation and point out certain limitations, especially those of narrow conceptualization and loss of meaning. Next, the article examines the Western sociophilosophic discourse on alienation and draws out some central ideas that cast alienation in a very different light. Finally, implications for reconceptualizing alienation within management inquiry are drawn.
